I think it’s important to support these events and everyone was enthusiastic in the early rehearsals. However, the size of the group soon dwindled due to a combination of illness and unexpected working commitments. This meant that we were unable to practise and led to a debate about cancelling the event.

Luckily, when we met up, it was clear that 14 of us were determined to continue. We trusted each other, gained in confidence and practised hard.

It was a real team effort, and with more than 1,000 people in attendance, it was also a huge success. I was a bit nervous, but once the lights went out, I was so happy that our dreams were being fulfilled.

We also had a surprise for the audience, as our director at the time, Martin Maasland, had agreed to be a model. It was a real showstopper when he appeared on stage with the choreographers, Nivedita and Rakhi. There were many whistles and cheers as the photographer was snapping away – I can still remember that amazing moment.

It’s so good that it went ahead, due to everyone’s hard work. The praise we received afterwards made it all worthwhile – a special memory that will remain close to my heart.

The experience taught me to never give up – and believe in myself. The icing on the cake was that I was asked to coordinate the next fashion show and carry forward everything we have learnt in a positive manner for Jashn 2024.
