Before working at Vanderlande, I had never been abroad. My first time out of China was to undertake ten weeks of training in The Netherlands, along with four colleagues.
The company kindly arranged a small house for us to live in the town of Schijndel, which lies several kilometres away from Veghel. “No problem” you might think, as a hire car could easily be arranged for us to commute.
Unfortunately, no one in our house could drive! Instead, we had to be taken everywhere in a Vanderlande hire car – not just to work, but also to the shops. I remember telling the drivers to give us ten minutes in the supermarket and then they could take us back home.
However, Vanderlande took care of us. In the end, we only stayed there for one week before being booked into a bed and breakfast closer to the office.
It was a great trip. Our colleagues helped us to make the most of the training, and on the weekends we would explore The Netherlands, usually by bus. We even got as far as Bruges in Belgium by taking the train.
